This publication is a special place I created for those who feel so alone trying to navigate their love life. If you think it’s helping you, consider becoming a paid subscriber. You can also buy me a coffee.
Every year, specifically in October, I’ve always got readers reaching out about being in limbo with their love life. They confused love-bombing with a long-term commitment - which is untrue.
The first time I heard the term of “cuffing season”, it all finally made sense to me. When the weather gets colder, it’s our human nature to want to just stay inside the house and be comfortable. You’d want to lock yourself in a room with a pumpkin spice latte while having someone to cuddle with.
Unfortunately, this is also one of the biggest reasons why most people are stuck in so-called “situationship”. One party isn’t being honest with their intention or worse, they aren’t sure if they want a serious relationship. Yet, they want to have all the benefits of being in one. So what happens next is they act like the perfect partner you could ever dream of but when Winter is over, the dreamy relationship is also done.
I know this sounds common for many people but for some, cuffing season isn’t on their radar. Especially when they’ve been single for a while and all of a sudden, there’s somebody who shows up and gives the attention they so long craved.
Being in a situationship isn’t so bad if you’re also cool with it. It could be a fun thing to have when, let’s say, you just got out of a bad relationship or are just unsure about being committed in general.
But if you’re on the other end, having the intention to be in a serious relationship instead, then you need to be more careful in opening up your heart during this cuffing season.
As hard as it can be to go through the cold Winter alone, I do think it’s still much better than adding unnecessary trauma. I’m sure you’ve enough on your plate and are not interested in ruining your own upcoming Spring/Summer.
So this is a reminder to stay true to yourself and become more aware of what you tolerate/not tolerate in your dating life.
Remember, just because someone shows an overwhelming amount of love and attention during this cold season, doesn’t mean you should reciprocate it right away.
After all, it’s your responsibility to choose the right person who’s worth your time and energy.
P.S.: I love love stories and anything relationship-related. So please don’t hesitate to reach out! I’d always be happy to talk :)
